LITTLE VAGABOND …

Little Vagabond

I’m the new girl
I only know about the little pueblo that has always been
my dirt floor
my kitchen war, my soup kitchen for four.

mom and dad
they don’t know each other
they only know
smoke and war

I travel these gravel roads
I suffer the cold trailers
I live through the cold winters
I usher in spring
with bare feet and singing

I am the new girl
wrapped in her throes
of passion and sadness
and witnessed brawls

this war
this war
is more than enough

this love
this love
I am not tough enough for

I say hello
to so many faces
I cry my eyes out
in so many places
that I talk to the animals and the sky cause she listens

I’m young
but I’m old
I’m young
but I’m so old
